Clifton Hawco

Engineer in Training / Project Manager

What excites you about the work you do?

The fact that there is always a different job to do excites me. I also find it exciting when special projects come through the door and I have the opportunity to manage them with my teams, as well as take part in the field procedures and calculations. We use state-of-the-art survey equipment and keep up to date with advancements in the industry, which also excites me.

What is a typical day like for you?
A typical day for me consists of organizing field crews for the first part of the morning. Throughout the day I deal with problems that arise in the field, either technical or personal. I deal with clients for new and ongoing jobs, and often work out in the field myself.

What type of people do you work with on a regular basis?

I work with everyone, from a layperson who knows nothing about surveying, to a QA specialist who questions me about the procedures and errors associated with measurements.

How has Allnorth helped you to formulate and achieve your career goals?

Allnorth provides me with the support and knowledge to advance in the industry.  The company has given me the tools and the people to achieve this. Allnorth also pushes me to excel in the field and always advance professionally.

How do you strike a good work/life balance?

I have a good work-life balance because I come in early in the mornings, which allows me to leave a little early in the day to go home to my wife. I am normally home to have supper with her, and have my weekends off to spend with the family. In rare cases, when the work needs to be done, this does not happen – but I don’t mind working overtime or late when I need to because that flexibility is there.

As project manager I organize daily tasks and develop procedures for crews to follow in the field. As an experienced surveyor I perform field work on special projects, or on precise survey projects. And as equipment manager I manage all of the equipment and have a hands-on approach to upgrading and maintaining equipment demands and supplies.
